So What's Wrong with Georgia?

And What’s with Georgia?

With a little help from our good friend Lane Kiffin, Florida is the 2009 SEC East Champion. Pencil in your trip to Atlanta.

As for the win that put us there, I’m really starting to wonder if Georgia hasn’t entered the realm of unhealthy obsession of all things Florida. How in the world does it make sense in a season that you are 4-3 to break with a hundred plus year tradition and wear black helmets for the first time? Against a team you are solid double digit underdogs, at that. I thought the black helmets looked very cool, but now they are just a further symbol of Georgia’s futility against Florida. Why not save that for a better year in a game that, you know, mattered?

The Youth Shines for Georgia

By no means did Georgia play a great game.

Sure, the game itself was great, but Georgia proved in its uncharacteristic 41-37 win over South Carolina on Saturday that it still has lots of things to work on.

But we did learn one thing: When called upon, the youngins will respond. And they definitely did Saturday.

How about the Gamecocks seizing momentum after forcing A.J. Green to fumble in the first quarter? How about the Gamecocks taking that momentum and turning it into six points in two minutes?

Georgia's Coach Drops the Ball

It’s a question many people have been asking: Where in the world were freshmen receivers Marlon Brown and Rantavious Wooten in Georgia’s 24-10 loss to Oklahoma State?

Well here’s your answer, and it comes from senior wide receiver Michael Moore (from David Hale’s blog where he grades the game).

“(Wide receiver) coach (Tony) Ball is in the box, so he doesn’t have direct contact with us, and he didn’t realize that until the end of the game,” Moore said. “We didn’t know what the rotation was going to be like and we basically stuck with just the three guys.”

Ball didn’t know? Seriously?

Knee-Jerk Thoughts on Georgia Loss

I was actually right about something regarding Week 1 of college football: Georgia’s defense stifled Oklahoma State’s offense.

The Bulldogs held Cowboys’ quarterback Zac Robinson to 11-22 and 135 yards. Kendall Hunter only averaged 3.3 yards a carry, and the reason why Oklahoma State finished with 172 yards rushing was the fact the Cowboys wore down a tired Georgia defense that was put into a lot of bad situations.

So what did you see?: Well, nothing good on offense outside of the first series. It looked like that first series was scripted since spring ball opened. And Branden Smith playing that much on offense early and then disappearing? Mike Bobo, my man, you’re behind the times.

Looking Ahead to Georgia-LSU

A lot is being made of this Georgia-LSU matchup on Oct. 3.

And that’s because there’s a good chance that if everything shakes out according to plan that both teams could be undefeated when the Tigers invade Sanford Stadium.

If so, this could be epic. Real epic.

But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Here’s how LSU looks with just a few days left before the season begins.

Mark Richt: We'll Get Beat

These are some words from Georgia coach Mark Richt after Wednesday’s practice game at Sanford Stadium, where the Bulldogs simulated their upcoming game with Oklahoma State:

“We’re not going to beat Oklahoma State playing like that. I’m glad we have 10 more days to prepare. There were too many penalties. One of the penalties forced us to kick a field goal instead of going for a touchdown. Offensively, we were just erratic. We did make some fine defensive plays and had good, solid tackling.”

I mentioned before that I think something is bothering Richt. I think there’s a chance he isn’t quite sure this year’s team will be that good.
